Date in the foregoing table is from tables on pages 14, 15, 50, 51, 52, and 53, as well as log entries. While certain pilots were listed as missing in action for short periods of time, they were not listed as missing in the tables. However, several pilots, that were listed as missing for a considerable period of time and were eventually returned, were listed with a notation to that effect. Hall, shot down on July 18 and listed as MIA but later reported as picked up by native and returned to Guadalcanal on August 2, and Stewart, listed as MIA on September 18 but was reported as bing picked up by natives on Sept 20, are examples of this. Additionally, Coffeen was listed as missing in operations on Arpril 13, 1943, and returned June 27, 1943; he never returned to the squadron.
FN#1 Ist Lieutenat Walter J. Johnson joined VMF-213 on August 26, 1943. His accident occurred just prior to the beginning of the 3rd Combat Tour.
